'Remorseless' Krisztian Szabo repeatedly punched the vulnerable 28-year-old woman in his car, then used a blade to slash her across her head as she fought desperately to get out of the vehicle in the attack in Sheffield in 2019.

He was found guilty of with Section 18 assault and possession of a bladed article following a short trial at Sheffield Crown Court.

Jurors heard how Szabo, 42, picked up the woman from Rutland Street and took her to the Vale Road area of the city on the morning of August 11, 2019, when he became violent and attacked her.

The violence left the victim in fear for her life, so much that she left her belongings behind in Szabo's car as she ran to a nearby business to get help.

Detective Constable Helen Critchley, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “Our investigation included reviewing CCTV footage, which showed Szabo’s car driving into the Vale Road area, the victim fleeing his vehicle with a nasty head injury and then his vehicle leaving the scene. When his car was recovered and forensically examined, the victim’s blood was found inside.

“The victim’s injuries to her head required stitches and she had bruising from Szabo’s continued punches. He has demonstrated no remorse or accountability for his actions, meaning the victim had to relive this traumatic attack before a jury.

“This incident has had a profound impact on the victim, a vulnerable young woman, and I hope that with yesterday’s guilty conviction, she is able to begin to move forward in her journey of recovery.”

Following the verdict on Wednesday, Szabo was remanded into custody and is due to be sentenced on February 17.

Det Con Critchley added: “This must have been an absolutely terrifying attack and I commend the victim in this case for her courage and support throughout our inquiry."
