Shooting victim named as Sheffield murder investigation continues

POLICE have named the 23-year-old man who was shot dead in Sheffield on Saturday as Assel Al-Essaie.

Officers were called to Daniel Hill, Walkley, Sheffield, at around 1.35pm on Saturday following reports that a man had been shot.

Mr Al-Essaie was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

A post-mortem examination conducted yesterday concluded Mr Al-Essaie died as a result of a gunshot wound to his chest.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. He currently remains in police custody being questioned by officers.

Senior investigating officer Joanne Bates said: “We are still exploring a number of lines of enquiry in relation to Mr Al-Essaie’s death and any witnesses are urged to come forward.

“I would like to reassure the community that we are doing everything possible to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

“Officers and PCSOs will continue to patrol the area and anyone with any information is asked to speak to them.”
