‘Sick’ burglar raids home of dying woman

A BURGLAR broke in and stole property from the house of a dying woman while her relatives sat with her, police said.

The woman died two hours after a crime, dubbed “sickening” by detectives.

Leicestershire Police said the woman’s family were upstairs with her at her home in Westover Road, Leicester, on Saturday night.

They had come to visit the woman, who had been ill for some time, as she was not expected to make it through the night.

But while they sat with her, someone broke in at around 12.20am and stole some car keys, an Apple iPad, cash, a Sony 32in flat screen television and an Apple Powerbook laptop.

Detective Constable Louisa Letts, who is investigating, said: “Unfortunately the victim passed away two hours after the burglary and as well as the family trying to deal with the loss of a loved one, their grief has been compounded further by the burglary.

“This was a sickening crime which has left the family extremely shocked and distressed.

“We need to find the people responsible and would urge anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area to contact us.”
