Skipton man charged with firearm offences after counter terrorism police raid property in North Yorkshire

A Skipton man has been charged with a number of firearm offences after counter terrorism police raided a property in North Yorkshire.

Concerned residents in Bowling Terrace reported a large number of officers in the area with a police cordon in place since last Wednesday (January 20).

Witnesses also reported a forensic tent outside a house and officers seen in the garden of a property.

Counter terrorism police confirmed a man had been arrested at the scene.Police have now confirmed Kevin Harrison, 62, of Bowling Terrace, Skipton has been charged with five offences under the Firearns Act.

The offences include possession of an electric stungun which was disguised as a torch.

A Counter Terrorism Policing North East spokeswoman confirmed: "A man from Skipton has been charged with offences under the Firearms Act after being arrested last week.

"The 62-year-old man was arrested by North Yorkshire Police on Wednesday January 20. He was further arrested by Counter Terrorism Policing North East following the discovery of potentially suspicious items.

"Kevin Harrison, of Bowling Terrace, Skipton is charged with five offences contrary to the Firearms Act 1968.

"He is charged with the possession of an electric stun gun contrary to Section 5(1) (b), a further offence of possession a firearm without a certificate to do so, and three offences of possessing ammunition without an appropriate certificate."

Mr Harrison is due to appear before Bradford Magistrates Court later this month.
