Swoops after drug police go undercover

POLICE have conducted a month-long covert operation to tackle suspected drug dealing in a Leeds park and around one of the city’s landmarks.

The operation resulted in officers gathering enough evidence to search three houses, where cannabis was found on each occasion.

Police took action as a result of complaints from neighbours in the Banstead Park area and near St Aidan’s Church on Elford Place, Harehills with officers carrying out surveillance work to gather evidence against those believed to be responsible.

Later they searched two houses in Elford Place West, with cannabis valued at £1,000 discovered at one and a £500 haul found in a wardrobe at the other. Officers searching the third address, on Ashton View, also found cannabis, valued at £500.

One person was arrested at each of the addresses and three teenagers were also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs during the operation.

Two men have since been charged with drugs offences and several others remain on bail.
