Police are still investigating a possible link between Mr Akpom’s murder and a fatal fire in Wood Hill, about half a mile from the scene of the attack. Shehnila Taufiq, who was in her 40s, died with her 19-year-old daughter Zainab and sons, Bilal, 17, and Jamal, 15, in the blaze at their home in Wood Hill on Friday morning.

Two men arrested in connection with their deaths remain in custody. Magistrates yesterday granted a 24 hour custody extension in the case of a 49-year-old man, and a 36-hour extension in the case of a 19-year-old man.
