Teenager charged following van attack

A TEENAGER has been charged in connection with an assault that left a four-year-old girl with serious facial injuries and will appear in court today.

Jersey-Lou Perry suffered a broken nose, lost two teeth, and shards of glass were left embedded in her face, when a brick was thrown through the window of a minibus in which she was a passenger.

The incident happened after her father Kyle got out to remonstrate with a gang who had been kicking a football at the minibus as he and his family drove along Hildyard Street close to the junction with Rutland Street in Grimsby last Thursday. Following the incident, Mr Perry drove his unconscious daughter straight to hospital where she was kept in overnight.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in connection with the incident on Tuesday and last night charged with wounding with intent. He will appear at Grimsby Youth Court today.

Humberside Police are still appealing for help to track down other youths who were in the street at the time who could help their investigations into the attack.

Insp Mel Christie, who is responsible for policing in the Cleethorpes area, said: “This sort of incident rarely happens but it has caused a lot of concern in the local area and I would like to thank the members of public who have come forward to help our investigation following the media appeals.

“Although one person has now been charged, we are still appealing for information and are very keen to speak to anyone else who was either in the group of young people in Rutland Street at the time but may not have been directly involved in the incident, or to anyone who witnessed the incident. PCSOs will be on patrol in the area so please stop them if you have information or any concerns.”

Insp Christie earlier said that Jersey-Lou had suffered some “horrendous” injuries but added: “She seems to be making a good recovery.”
