Teenager killed in four-car crash near Holmfirth

A 17-year-old man died after a crash involving four vehicles near Holmfirth yesterday.

The incident on the A635 Greenfield Road took place at around 4.45pm on Sunday, September 27.

The crash involved a black VW Polo, a blue Fiat 500, white Toyota Hiace and black Audi A3.

Three of the cars were travelling from Oldham towards Holmfirth, while the Audi was travelling in the opposite direction.

It is believed the incident occurred after the Polo was in collision with the Audi while overtaking.

A 17-year-old male passenger in the Polo, who is from the Diggle area, died as a result of the collision.

A 56-year-old man from Oldham, who was in the Toyota, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary and remains in a serious but stable condition.

The 17-year-old female driver of the Polo is also at the hospital for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A 36-year-old Rotherham man who was driving the Audi also suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and was treated at Leeds General Infirmary.

The A635 was closed for most of the night while recovery and investigation work was carried out.

Police Sergeant Carl Quinn said: “Enquires are ongoing into what has clearly been a very serious multi-vehicle collision which has resulted in the death of a 17-year-old male.

“We would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident or the manner of driving of any of the vehicles in the moments before this collision.

“Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.”

The 18-year-old female driver of the Fiat 500 was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
