Thieves target same lorry twice within days

POLICE are hunting thieves who stole the same lorry twice – taking tens of thousands of pounds of goods each time.

The blue Scania truck and trailer was taken from a yard on Grange Road in Batley between 4am and 12.15pm on Wednesday, October 19.

It contained 9,000 70cl bottles of spirits worth £80,000, which were due to be delivered to a supermarket.

The empty lorry was found two days later on the bridge over the M62 at Bradford Road in Birkenshaw. However, the same vehicle was stolen from the compound again between 6pm on Tuesday, November 8, and 9am the following day.

On this occasion the truck contained 10 two-tonne waste copper blocks worth a total of £100,000.
