Three held over ‘M-Cat’ death of Aimee, 20

POLICE have arrested three people in connection with the death of a 20-year-old Leeds woman believed to have taken the “party drug” M-Cat.

Two women and a man were detained as part of the investigation into the death of Aimee Jade Costello, who collapsed at an address in Whitkirk, Leeds, after it is believed she had taken the drug Mephedrone, also known as M-Cat or “meow meow”, earlier this month.

The former plant food is used as an alternative for amphetamine or harder drugs and was made illegal in April 2010.

An inquest into Miss Costello’s death heard she had had visited a friend’s house in Whitkirk, in the early hours of April 4. While there she took the substance with friends.

But at 6.45pm that day she suffered a fit and an ambulance was called to the property.

She was given emergency treatment before being rushed to St James’s Hospital where her death was confirmed at 8.45pm.

The inquest was adjourned pending toxicology tests and further police inquiries.
