Toddler seriously injured in dog attack has surgery

A TWO-YEAR-OLD boy viciously attacked by a dog has undergone surgery after one of his ears and part of his nose were torn off.

It is believed the boy, named locally as Keiron Guess, also had serious damage to one of his eyes.

The toddler was found in a neighbour’s back garden by his grandfather – who suffered an injury to his arm while trying to fight off the Staffordshire bull terrier.

Dave Guess, 49, had rushed to help his grandson at the terrace house in Swanage Walk, Swindon, after he heard screaming.

The youngster’s other grandfather, Shaun Leonard, told The Sun: “The dog bit off most of his nose. His left eye was hanging out. His face was in two bits but they have stitched him together. They put him in an induced coma after the surgery.”

Two air ambulances were flown to the incident at about 6pm on Sunday along with two road ambulances, a rapid response unit and two doctors. The boy was taken to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Police said the toddler’s parents, named locally as Stacey and Anthony, were at their son’s bedside.

A Wiltshire Police spokeswoman said two dogs were at the house but only one was involved in the attack. It is understood the dog has since been put down.

No-one has been arrested in connection with the attack.

The owner of the dogs is understood to be fully co-operating with the police. He has been named in reports as Garfield King, who told The Sun: “I was watching the Jubilee on the television. I heard squeaking and went outside.

“The dog looked like he was playing with something. I thought it was a dolly at first. Then I saw it was a baby. I’m still in shock.”
