Two in court for murder of Scots teenager Craig Hepburn in Marsden, Huddersfield street

Two men have appeared in court charged with the murder of a teenager in a West Yorkshire village at the weekend.

Anthony Driver, 36, and Luke Elliott, 21, both of Huddersfield, appeared at separate hearings at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

They are accused of the killing of 19-year-old Craig Hepburn, from Linwood, Renfrewshire. He was visiting family when he was stabbed to death in Marsden near Huddersfield early on Saturday.

Driver and Elliott were also charged with the attempted murder of Craig’s friend, Conor Paton.

Both were remanded in custody and will appear at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday.

The surviving teenager was still conscious and able to speak a few words to police at the scene, but he had lost a lot of blood and detectives have since been unable to speak to him again because of his condition.

Det Supt Paul Taylor of West Yorkshire Police said: “The two victims are friends who were both down from Scotland visiting relatives and staying in the village for a few days.

“It is unlikely they knew their attackers because they did not know anyone else in the village.

“Places like Marsden are small places, close knit communities where everyone knows everyone else.

“Someone will want to sort this out quickly and we want to hear from anyone with any information.”

Officers have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
