Two soldiers killed in Catterick Garrison crash

TWO soldiers have been killed in North Yorkshire after the car they were driving in left the road near Catterick Garrison and hit a tree.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for information after the crash on Leyburn Road, near the entrance to Catterick Golf Club, at 8.05pm yesterday.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was taken by ambulance to Darlington Memorial Hospital where she later died.

Police say both the man and the woman, who were in a black Seat Leon car, are serving Army personnel based locally.

A spokesman said: “Relatives have been informed but we are not in a position to identify them at this time.

“The road remained closed until 1.50am on Sunday while the scene was investigated by the police and the vehicle recovered.”
