Two teenagers to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court charged over viral Holmfirth incident

Two teenagers have been charged over an incident in Holmfirth which went viral on social media.

An alleged assault at Holmfirth Cricket Club, West Yorkshire, was filmed and posted online on Wednesday.

West Yorkshire Police launched an investigation into the incident, which is believed to have taken place earlier this week, following the viral video.

A 17-year-old male from Holmfirth and a 16-year-old female from Huddersfield, neither of whom can be named for legal reasons, will appear before Leeds Magistrates Court today.

The 17-year-old has been charged with assault against one victim.

He has also been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence against a second victim.

The 16-year-old girl was charged with a public order offence.

Enquiries into the assault remain ongoing by Kirklees CID.

Police are supporting the victim of the assault and his family and the local neighbourhood policing team conducted reassurance patrols in Holmfirth yesterday.
