Two young pedestrians killed in separate crashes

On Friday, a 25-year-old woman was hit by a white Renault articulated lorry as she walked along Pontefract Road in Barnsley at 5.15am.

The victim, who was taken to hospital for treatment but died hours later, was today named by police as Leonie Louise Davies from Barnsley.

South Yorkshire Police also revealed today that a 23-year-old male pedestrian was killed yesterday after being hit by a black Audi A5 in Trafford Way, Doncaster.

The man was taken to hospital after the collision at 3.45pm near the junction with West Street but died hours later.

The Audi driver, a 19-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for information about both crashes and are asking witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman said: “It is thought Ms Davies had been walking with a man and a woman when the crash happened, at the junction of Wycombe Street in Lundwood.

“Did you see three people walking in the area at the time? Or perhaps you saw the lorry before the crash?”

Anyone who saw the Doncaster crash, or saw the Audi in the run-up to the incident, is also asked to contact police.
