A woman who was critically injured in a crash in Scunthorpe in the early hours of this morning has died, Humberside Police said.

Humberside Police said the 33-year-old, who was a front seat passenger in a black Hyundai car that collided with street furniture, was taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital with "critical" injuries following the collision at the roundabout of Brigg Road and the A18 in Scunthorpe, near to the Morrisons supermarket, at 1.40am today (Monday).

She later died.

The 23-year-old man who was driving the car has been arrested on suspicion of driving over the prescribed alcohol limit and is in custody at Scunthorpe Police Station.

The road has been closed since the incident to enable accident investigation work to be conducted and diversions are in place.

The vehicle had travelled along Brigg Road towards the roundabout but before arriving at the roundabout appears to have lost control and collided with a central island and street furniture.

Police need to speak to any witnesses to the incident and ask that anyone with information rings 101 referring to log 35 of Monday July 25.
