The video – taken from inside a car on the A1 southbound carriageway at Skeeby – shows Christian Clark’s Ford Focus cutting in front of following traffic and slowing suddenly as he slams the brakes on.

It was released by North Yorkshire Police after 27-year-old Clark, of Cross Flats Place, Beeston, Leeds, was banned for 12 months after pleading guilty to dangerous driving at Northallerton Magistrates’ Court.

PC Andy Grainge, of Northallerton police, said: “This was clearly a very dangerous manoeuvre and it is extremely fortunate that nobody was injured.

“The defendant has admitted that he made a massive error of judgement and hopefully this will serve as a warning to other motorists that putting lives at risk on the roads can lead to you losing your licence.”

Clark was also sentenced to 150 hours unpaid work and was ordered to pay £85 costs over the incident on January 27.
