Violent offender goes on run from open prison

A man jailed for seven-and-a-half years after beating a vulnerable drug addict unconscious is on the run after failing to return to an open prison.

Ian Stirzaker, originally from Bradford, failed to return to HMP Hatfield near Doncaster on Saturday following day release.

The 35-year-old was sentenced to 90 months in prison for grievous bodily harm at Bradford Crown Court in July 2011.

It was reported at the time that he and drug dealer Lee Lock beat a vulnerable drug addict unconscious in a bid to pervert the course of justice.

Stirzaker is white, 5ft 8ins tall, with brown hair. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black jogging bottoms and white trainers.

Police from South Yorkshire Police are liaising with colleagues in West Yorkshire to carry out enquiries.
