Visitor, 43, in hospital after gang attack

A 43-YEAR-OLD visitor to York is in hospital with serious injuries after being attacked and robbed by a gang while strolling along the River Ouse.

The man, from Harrogate, was set upon between 10.15pm and 10.45pm near to Almery Terrace, as he passed underneath a railway bridge and suffered a broken jaw among other injuries.

The victim passed a group of six to eight men aged between 18 and 20 a few moments prior to the robbery, and had cash stolen in the attack.

Police are investigating a link with another robbery that took place nearby a few days previously.

Yesterday, a youth aged 17 and two men aged 20 and 23 were arrested in connection with the attack.

Detective Sergeant Mark Jackson, of York CID, said: “This was a vicious and apparently unprovoked assault which has left a man in hospital.”
