Wanted Scarborough sex offender arrested in Scotland

THE POLICE hunt for wanted Scarborough sex offender Barry Gibson ended last night when he was arrested in Scotland.

North Yorkshire Police said Gibson was arrested on Sunday night in the Glentrool area of Dumfries and Galloway.

Police had urged the public to help trace Gibson, who was jailed for life in 2000 on a number of sex offences and was released from prison on licence in November 2015, subject to a number of conditions.

Before he was jailed he lived in Herdborough Road, Eastfield, Scarborough.

On May 6, Gibson, who was living in the Boroughbridge Road area of York, failed to comply with a condition of his licence and an order was issued to recall him to prison.

The last sighting of him was on Thursday May 5 – the day before he breached his court order – outside the taxi rank near York Minster.
