War medal stolen in burglary at Doncaster house

BURGLARS stole a World War One medal and jewellery during a raid at a house in the Balby area of Doncaster.

South Yorkshire Police said burglars smashed a window in the back door of the house on Lister Avenue between 11am and 4.15pm yesterday. (Wednesday March 23)

The burglary victim’s father’s World War One Royal Flying Corps victory medal was stolen.

The medal has a blue and yellow ribbon and a service number 11720 on the edge.

Also stolen was a silver chain and a silver engagement ring in the shape of a flower.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The items are of huge sentimental value to the victim. Anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area at around the time of the incident is asked to contact police. If you have any information, please call 101 quoting incident number 710 of 23 March 2016. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111.”
