Weather Lottery boss is jailed for fraud and theft

A MAN from has been jailed for 28 months for fraud and theft committed while working for a lottery company.

Keith Milhench, 56, of Brough, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court, having earlier admitted charges relating to the misappropriation of jackpot payments to winners of The Weather Lottery, where he was managing director.

A second defendant, Amie Pickersgill-Smith, 30, formerly of Otley, West Yorkshire, was given a 20-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

She was also ordered to carry out 120 hours of community service. The Weather Lottery runs lotteries for numerous charity, education and sporting organisations.

The Gambling Commission investigated financial irregularities between April 2008 and April 2010, when it had its head office at Mattersey, near Retford. They found that prizes for seven winners had not been paid out.

The commission then referred the matter to Nottinghamshire Police, who found evidence of fraud and theft totalling around £70,000.

The pair were jointly charged in January with seven counts of fraud and four counts of theft.

Police have identified the victims and they have all been compensated.
