Why police advise you to dislike Facebook thumbs-down icon

FRAUDSTERS are cashing in on the recent announcement that Facebook is to redesign its '˜Like' button system.

Despite boss Mark Zuckerberg’s recent announcement detailing plans for ‘love’, ‘haha’, ‘yay’, ‘wow’, ‘sad’ and ‘angry’ post reactions, links and apps offering the fake ‘dislike’ button have spread across the world’s most popular social media platform.

However, the National Trading Standards eCrime Team have stated that any app, profile or website offering one is a scam.

Posts saying that any user has been chosen by Facebook to test its ‘new’ button are also scams and users should not click any of these links.

Anyone tempted to install a new button will be diverted to an external website which could put them at risk of installing a malicious app, says the Government policing department. Users will also end up spreading the scam to family and friends, and any groups they are in.

It’s easy to be taken in by convincing and alluring social media scams, but being sceptical and only clicking on links from reputable sources should keep you safe most of the time.
