Wine shop worker dies after weekend incident

A SHOP worker who was seriously injured during an incident at a wine store has died, police said today.

The 43-year-old man was taken to hospital after police were called to Stanningley Wines on Saturday afternoon.

West Yorkshire Police said he died at Leeds General Infirmary last night and a post-mortem examination is due to take place later.

The man has not yet been named by officers.

Yesterday, a 22-year-old man appeared in court in connection with the incident.

Police said Nathan Clarke, of Stanningley Road, Leeds, appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court charged with wounding with intent, two counts of assault with intent to resist apprehension and one count of theft.

Officers said the case was adjourned until March 28 and Clarke was remanded in custody.

Two men, aged 27 and 28, who were arrested on Sunday in connection with the incident have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
