Woman in electric wheelchair assaulted after verbal abuse from two men in Haxby

A woman in an electric wheelchair was assaulted in the street after being verbally abused by two men in a North Yorkshire town.

Now police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, which took place in Haxby yesterday afternoon.

The woman and her husband were verbally abused by two men while they were in The Village between 2.15pm and 2.30pm.

North Yorkshire Police said one of the men involved had then gone on to push the woman.

A spokesman said: "The two men had been moving a broken down vehicle along the road in the direction of Wigginton just beforehand, and then moved the vehicle in that direction again immediately after the assault.

"In particular, officers are appealing for two women who stopped and spoke to the victim to come forward and assist with police enquiries.

"A third man also drove past, after the assault, and stopped to assist the suspects move their vehicle down the road. That man was driving a forest-green Fiesta-style car and could also assist officers with the investigation."
