No pleas were entered and the Recorder of Sheffield, Judge Jeremy Richardson QC, said Woodhall will appear again for another hearing on June 19.

A trial date had been provisionally fixed for September 28.

Judge Richardson remanded Woodhall in custody.

The defendant appeared in court via video link from prison. The judge sat in court with Jamie Hill QC, prosecuting, appearing remotely and Andrew O'Byrne QC, defending, appearing in person.

South Yorkshire Police has said a post-mortem examination concluded Mrs Woodhall, 31, died from multiple stab wounds.

Tributes were paid to the operating department practitioner by Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust after her death.
