Yorkshire police officer '˜filled up his car using work petrol pump'

A South Yorkshire Police officer faces a misconduct hearing for allegedly using a petrol pump reserved for force vehicles to fill up his own car.

Pc Robert Mill is accused of using the South Yorkshire Police fuel pump at Wombwell Police Station in Barnsley on two occasions between June and September last summer.

According to the South Yorkshire Police website: “It is alleged that PC Mill was seen with his car boot open, where he placed a petrol container into the boot of his personal vehicle.

“It is alleged that PC Mill acquired police fuel for his own benefit. This is a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in relation to Honesty & Integrity.”

A disciplinary hearing into his case is due to take place on May 23 and will last for three days. Police misconduct hearings have been taking place in public since last year in a bid to improve transparency.

In a case last month, a South Yorkshire special constable was dismissed after crashing into a parking post while attending an incident and then failing to notify the owner of the damage.

According to the force: “The officer also failed to complete the police vehicle logbook as required, failed to report the collision and damage of a police vehicle to a supervisory officer and told his supervisor that none of the vehicles checked had any damage to them, which was not true.”
