YET another terrorist attack reminds us that counter-terrorism will remain one of the top priorities of the new Government after the election.

Terrorists do not respect national borders. Our nearest neighbour, France, has faced a spate of terror attacks, just like us, and their new president, Emmanuel Macron, was one of the first to pledge support for Britain after the attack. We face a common enemy, alongside other western democratic countries, which we need to fight together.

The EU has a counter-terrorism strategy, which we helped to create, and European institutions, like Europol and the European Arrest Warrant, play an important part in it. Brexit negotiations start later this month.

Our negotiators need to protect British participation in EU security institutions, which means avoiding a hard Brexit.

IN all this doom and gloom,
how inspirational was the wonderful benefit concert in Manchester?

I must admit I had never heard of Ariana Grande, but what an amazing, sensitive young lady she is.
