Crystal power for Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

More than 4,000 Diamond Jubilee beacons will be lit across the globe in celebration of the Queen’s 60-year reign.

The Queen will light the final beacon with a crystal glass ‘diamond’ from the concert stage where Stevie Wonder, JLS, Sir Elton John and a host of stars will perform in her honour on June 4.

Pageantmaster Bruno Peek, who also organised the Golden Jubilee beacons in 2002, is seen delivering the crystal to the Tower of London last night during a lavish ceremony.

He said: “Our aim was to light 2,012 beacons because 2,012 have never been lit before, but by the end of the night we will have over 4,000 – that’s truly amazing. Beacons will be lit from around the world on Monday June 4 and those in the UK will criss-cross the nation on landmarks and vantage points.
