The 250ft blade made at the Siemens factory attracted huge interest after being lifted into place in Queen Victoria Square as an artwork earlier this year, with more than 1.1m coming to look, including 420,000 people who took pictures or just touched it.

Many a lively debate was had as to whether it was art, while countless selfies were taken.

As well as being seen by visitors, those using the public right of way past the factory, will be able to see it close up through a fence, while motorists on the adjacent A63 should get a glimpse as they drive by.

Factory director Jason Speedy said: “Having previously been interpreted as an art installation, it is now proposed the blade will be a landmark for the factory and a symbol of Hull as a centre of green energy manufacturing, engineering and innovation.”

The same mountings will be used as before with the Blade held at the same degree of rotation.

Chief executive of Hull 2017 Martin Green said the Blade and the incredible journey it made to come into the city centre, were etched in people’s memories.

He added: “We’re therefore delighted that it is proposed to be permanently installed so that people visiting or passing the Siemens Gamesa factory can see it for years to come.”
