Cycling stars gear up for premiere

CYCLING stars from Mirfield are attending the premiere of Mirfield's Cycling Heritage, a documentary celebrating the achievements of local people in professional cycling.

Those attending the event – who also appear in the film – will include Brian Robinson, the first British cyclist to win a stage of the Tour de France, Lisa Brambani, who represented Britain at the Seoul Olympics in 1988, and fellow local cycling legends Des Robinson, Albert Hitchen and Louise Robinson.

The premiere, hosted by Mirfield councillor Martyn Bolt, takes place at Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth Form, Kitson Hill Road, Mirfield, next Tuesday. Doors open from 6.45pm and admission is free.

DVDs of the film will be available for 5 after the event from Sowerby cycles and Mirfield, Ravensthorpe and Huddersfield libraries. All funds raised will go to the newly-formed Kirklees Cycling Academy, which aims to get more young people involved.

The film was paid for by the former Mirfield Area Committee and produced by RayFilms.

Ray Pascoe of RayFilms said last night: "People like Brian and Des Robinson, Lisa Brambani and Albert Hitchen were among the cycling legends I took a great interest in when I was a young man."
