Cyclist 'critical'after collision

A cyclist was in a critical but stable condition in hospital after a collision with a car on the main A1079 Hull to York road on Thursday night.

The 18-year-old from Beverley suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident one mile north of Bishop Burton and was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary where he underwent surgery. The driver of the Fiat Punto, a 38-year-old Shiptonthorpe man, was treated for shock. Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, at about 10.40pm, including the driver of a “JCB-type” vehicle.
