Cyclist killed after steel cabin falls off lorry at roundabout

Susan Russell, 54, suffered fatal injuries in the accident on a roundabout on the A63, the main route to the docks, at 7.25am yesterday.

The 46-year-old male driver of the tractor unit was arrested in connection with the incident.

The accident led to major disruption from road closures on both east and westbound routes and tailbacks stretched out of the city as far as the Humber Bridge. Drivers were taking more than two hours to cover just a couple of miles.

Police appealed for anyone who saw the white tractor unit and trailer, carrying the green portable office, before the accident, or the accident itself which happened on Garrison Road, at the roundabout junction with Great Union Street.

Officers would particularly like to speak to the driver of a silver vehicle, believed to be a Ford C Max, which initially stopped at the scene.
