Da Vinci art to be big draw in city

EXPERTS will be shining a light on drawings by Leonardo da Vinci which are coming to Hull later this autumn.

A selection of 10 of the 600 drawings held in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle are on tour to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and they will be coming to Hull’s Ferens Art gallery from November 10.

It will be the only venue in Yorkshire to display the work.

Tickets have gone on sale for lectures including one by exhibition curator Martin Clayton who will be speaking about their wider context on the preview night on November 9 at the Ferens.

A further highlight will be an appearance by internationally-renowned Leonardo da Vinci expert, Martin Kemp, the author of Leonardo, Christ to Coke and his most recent book How Image Becomes Icon.

On January 11 he will look at links between icons like the Mona Lisa and those produced by Andy Warhol – subject of an Artists Rooms exhibition at the Ferens, which continues until January.

Hull Council hopes the exhibition will prove as big a draw as David Hockney’s Bigger Trees Near Warter, which attracted a record 63,000 visitors.
