Dales farmer thrown 80ft as tractor overturns

A 23-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital with a suspected back injury, after being thrown 80ft when the tractor she was driving overturned in the Yorkshire Dales.

The farmer was spreading slurry at Leighton, near Masham when the accident happened at around 3.15pm yesterday.

The tractor rolled down a steep hillside near Leighton Reservoir and the farmer landed in a wooded gully.

A spokesman for the Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team confirmed its personnel had assisted paramedics in transferring the casualty to a waiting air ambulance.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance, a road ambulance and fire crews were all in attendance.
