COMedian and actor Ade Edmondson has returned to his Yorkshire roots for the filming of a fly-on-the-wall television series focusing on life in the Dales.

The 53-year-old, who was born in Bradford, will front a new ITV show, The Dales, which follows on from the hugely successful The Lakes, which pulled in 4.3 million viewers.

Backed by the region’s tourism organisation, Welcome to Yorkshire, The Dales will centre on characters and life in the Yorkshire countryside.

Edmondson was in the Yorkshire Dales last week to film his part of the series and will be back in September for the final shoot.

Programme producers are remaining tight-lipped about who has been picked to feature in the programme as well as the storylines. But some of the show has been filmed at the exclusive luxury castle hotel Swinton Park in Masham, near Ripon.

The owner of Swinton Park, Felicity Cunliffe-Lister, said: “We think it’s going to be great for us in that it shows us not just being a hotel in the Yorkshire Dales, but also how much the hotel plays a part in the local community and economy.

“Hopefully they have got lots of nice shots of the fabulous scenery and have brought the Dales to life showing that there’s lots to do in Yorkshire – whatever the weather.”

Welcome to Yorkshire was inundated with offers from businesses clamouring to become involved in the series after it announced plans to support the series at the Y10 conference earlier this year.
