PLANNERS have backed a pioneering scheme to train apprentices in renewable energy technology despite objections from residents in the Yorkshire Dales.

GTEC Training wants to build a two-storey unit at Bruntacres Trading Estate in Hawes to not only incorporate green energy technology but also dormitories for those attending the six to eight day courses.

Dales National Park planners voted “yes” to the plans after being told by the company the supervised accommodation was an integral part of its programme.

Residents had objected on the grounds they said they were promised there would be no living space on the trading estate, that the accommodation made the building too big, and there were more than enough beds in town for the apprentices.
