Dales view one of best in Britain

An area of the Yorkshire Dales offers one of the best views in Britain while two stretches of water in the Lake District are unsurpassed for their breathtaking scenery, according to a new poll.

Top view was adjudged to be Lake Buttermere, with Derwentwater in second place in the survey by car company Chevrolet. The Seven Sisters cliff formation in East Sussex was in third place, followed by St Ives in Cornwall and Stonehenge in Wiltshire.

In sixth place was Holkham Beach in Norfolk, with Swaledale, above, in North Yorkshire seventh, Wastwater in Cumbria eighth, Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland ninth, and Loch Coruisk on the Isle of Skye in Scotland 10th.

Les Turton, from Chevrolet, said: "We don't need to fork out on flights to find scenic locations. It is really great that more and more people are appreciating and acknowledging everything that our own country has to offer us.

"There is a wealth of beauty on offer to everyone within the UK and we only need to hit the road to find it."
