Damages for recycling site injury

A MAN who fell at a waste disposal centre in Doncaster has won "substantial" damages.

Former soldier Frank Sharpe, 57, suffered a series of health problems after falling on a ramp as he took cardboard packaging to the Carcroft waste recycling site in 2005.

A hospital specialist suggested his leg should be amputated above the knee, but Mr Sharpe, of Lynden Avenue, Adwick-Le-Street, sought a second opinion at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield and medics hope they will be able to save his leg.

Mr Sharpe said: "This has been a nightmare. For the last four years my wife has had to help me wash, dress and use the bathroom and I've been unable to work at all."

A council spokesperson said the authority's waste recycling centres were now managed by a different contractor.
