Dancing in the streets as museum targets city’s young

Hull’s Streetlife museum will host a range of live music and dance performances at a special event this Saturday.

Young musicians from The Warren will be performing alongside Blind Fury Break Dance, the East Riding Dance Company, the Hull Academy Choir, and Health Beat Street Dance from 12pm to 4pm.

There will also be an exhibition of artwork by young people, craft workshops, historical character performances and an opportunity to have a go at playing the violin, drums and accordion in sessions with music group Shiznitz.

The “Live Hull” event is the final in a series of 10 which has seen a huge increase in the number of youngsters, aged 16 to 25, visiting the museum.

Rachael Drew, Community Education Officer for Hull Museum Education, said: “The event will showcase some of the musical and creative talents of young people in Hull and hopefully encourage even more local people to come along and visit Hull’s fabulous museums and other cultural centres.

“We’ve had over 5,000 people visit the museum over the course of the year which is a fantastic figure.

“We have had a huge increase in the demographic which has been brilliant for young people, some of whom have sold CDs and got other gigs out of it.”
