Dark chocolate back on York production line

The company has outsourced its supplies of the product since 2007, when a restructure led to the loss of capacity at the Haxby Road site.

Milk chocolate has continued to be produced there and now, thanks to plant and efficiency improvements, dark chocolate will rejoin it on the production lines this month.

The factory will produce around 8,000 tonnes of dark chocolate a year to be used in Quality Street, After Eights, Matchmakers and dark Kit Kats.

Peter Gough, York factory manager, said: “Dark chocolate is an important ingredient for a number of our products and the chocolate team has worked really hard to bring it back in-house.

“Over a number of years, efficiencies in milk chocolate production has enabled an area to be made available solely for dark chocolate. The employees have now been trained on making dark chocolate and are now ready to go.

“This is another important addition to the York site and we look forward to consumers enjoying Nestlé products with York-made dark chocolate.”
