Darren Day maintains innocence in drink-drive case

ENTERTAINER Darren Day appeared in court today accused of drink-driving.

The 41-year-old was arrested in Edinburgh in the early hours of December 18 after his car allegedly collided with a lamppost in the city's Manor Place.

He maintained his not guilty pleas to six charges against him at a procedural hearing before Sheriff Kathrine Mackie at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Day, from Cudworth, South Yorkshire, is accused of driving without due care and attention, failing to stop, failing to report an accident and failing to co-operate with a preliminary breath test.

The drink-driving charge alleges that he had 58 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath. The limit is 35.

An alternative to that charge alleges that he failed to give two breath specimens at Edinburgh's Drylaw police station.

In the final charge, he is accused of possessing an offensive weapon called a kubotan.

A Crown Office spokeswoman confirmed today that another intermediate diet was fixed for January 20, the day before his trial is scheduled to begin.

Bail was continued.
