Date set for Wetherspoon pub to open

A NEW JD Wetherspoon pub is finally set to open in Sheffield's Ecclesall Road next week, after being subject to months of delays.

The pub company has spent 985,000 developing the Sheaf Island pub, which will create 60 new jobs, on the site of the former Wards Brewery. The stone entrance and the former brewing tower are all that remain of the brewery, which closed in 1999.

Manager of the Sheaf Island Craig Bacon said: "I am looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and am confident that it will be a good addition to Sheffield's social scene."

Building work on the new pub was delayed by issues with neighbours living in nearby flats, but a spokesman for JD Wetherspoon said the problems have now "been resolved to everyone's satisfaction".

The Sheaf Island will now open its doors on Friday, September 17.
