Daughter's £10,000 cancer charity goal

TEENAGER Diane Wilson is aiming to raise £10,000 for Sheffield's Weston Park Hospital, which is treating her mother for cancer.

The 16-year-old from Thorne has signed up for a series of events to raise funds for the hospital's cancer charity, including a dragon boat regatta at Rother Valley Country Park, two skydives and a series of 10k, 5k and 3k walks and runs.

Diane's mother, also called Diane Wilson, 45, has a rare form of cancer called trophoblastic disease and has been treated at Weston Park Hospital with chemotherapy since she was diagnosed last year.

The teenager said: "I know and understand how much the money means to them – the hospital is doing so much for my mum and that's priceless to me.

"Now I have set myself a goal and I thought instead of raising 100 why not try for 10,000? It's a lot of money and I'm determined to do my best to meet my goal.

"I'm not very sporty but I want to do something to help. I've seen how dedicated everyone is at the hospital and I know how important it is for the charity to receive funds so that it can support patients like my mum."

Mrs Wilson, who is now taking a break from chemotherapy, described her daughter as "one in a million."

She said: "Not everyone could cope with their mum needing treatment but she's accepted it and risen to the challenge and now she wants to help others too."
