Dead dog dumped in castle grounds

animal welfare inspectors have launched an investigation after the body of a stabbed dog was found in the grounds of a castle owned by English Heritage.

The female German Shepherd-type dog was found in a stream in the grounds of Bolsover Castle, near Chesterfield, by a member of the public at around midday on November 13.

The dog’s body was collected by the RSPCA and on examination it was found that it had “suspicious stab-type injuries” to its body which could have been caused deliberately.

An RSPCA spokesman said the dog was thought to be around three years old and appealed to anyone who may recognise the description of the dog, or who may know who its owner is.

The spokesman added: “We have reason to believe this dog was deliberately killed and her body then dumped in the stream.

“This is an unusual location and therefore we would urge anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact the RSPCA. We would also like to hear from anyone who may know who the owner of this dog is.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
