Deadline extended amid flood of late bids

THE final call for entries in the Yorkshire Post Environment Awards goes out today after judges extended the deadline until Tuesday following a flood of late entries.

The awards, in their fifth year, aim to recognise and celebrate the very best of the environmental work being done throughout the region, with prizes presented across 11 diverse categories.

Entries will be judged next week by a panel including leading environmental scientist Dr Lynne Frostick, who was the first winner of the Green Champion prize at the inaugural awards in 2009.

She will be joined by representatives from the Yorkshire Post and awards sponsors Yorkshire Water, Asda, Bond Dickinson, Banks Group and Northern Gas Network in drawing up a shortlist of nominees, which will be published on Saturday, May 18.

The winners will then be announced at a glitzy dinner and prizegiving ceremony at the Queens Hotel in Leeds on Wednesday, June 12.

Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Davey will be the keynote speaker at the event.

As well as receiving a trophy, all winners will be featured in a special Yorkshire Post supplement.
