Deadly heat wave sweeps India

At least 24 people have died in a heat wave sweeping half a dozen Indian states.

The highest temperature of 49C was recorded in Bundelkhand district of northern Uttar Pradesh state. At least five people have died from heat stroke in the state while four people died in eastern Orissa state. Thirty-nine other suspected heat deaths are being probed. In northern Bihar state, at least 15 people have died.
