Death-crash appeal to 4x4 driver

THE driver of a 4x4 vehicle who stopped at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash near Ilkley has been urged to contact police investigators.

Extensive enquiries are being carried out into the incident which claimed the life of Stephen Wood, 39, who died in the early hours of Sunday after being hit by up to three vehicles on the A65 between Ilkley and Addingham.

A man in a silver or light coloured 4x4 car, which had a wheel mounted on the boot, briefly got out of his car at the scene but then continued towards Addingham.

The car had earlier emerged out of Victoria Avenue at Ilkley and turned onto the A65.

Detective Sergeant Carole Clayton said: "From speaking to witnesses we believe that a silver 4x4 or light coloured car stopped at the scene at the time of the incident and we are very keen to speak to this man about the incident.

"I would urge the driver of this vehicle to come forwards and contact us as soon as possible as we believe he may have crucial information in helping us uncover what happened."
