Decapitation notes scrawled in diary, Stone jury told

The written ramblings of one of two men accused of plotting to kill music star Joss Stone included “RIP” references and notes on injury and decapitation.

Kevin Liverpool, 35, wrote down in a diary his thoughts about the Devon-based soul singer, as well as talking of the need to buy a semi-automatic gun, a gun holder, a silencer and infrared equipment, as well as a “ninja sword”.

Liverpool, who was originally from Huddersfield, had also written a reminder to buy a hooded top, car insurance, a safe and open a bank account, Exeter Crown Court heard.

Liverpool and co-accused Junior Bradshaw, 32, who was also originally from Huddersfield, are charged with plotting to rob and kill Miss Stone, real name Jocelyn Stoker, with the intention of dumping her body in a river in June 2011.

The defendants, now of St Stephen’s Close, Manchester, deny conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to cause GBH and conspiracy to rob.

The diary was seized by police when they raided Liverpool’s one-bedroom flat in Longsight, Manchester, after his arrest in Devon.

In the diary – a daily appointment 2007 edition – each page was covered in handwritten scrawl, much of it crossed or scribbled out.

Detective Constable Katherine Joyner told the jury of 10 men and two women there were quite a few references to urban slang words, such as “wet” – meaning to repeatedly stab someone until their clothes are soaked with blood – and “popo” – “police”.

Liverpool had also written a list, numbered 1, 2 and 3, of “rob”, “wet/injure” and “death”.

The notes included details of Miss Stone’s date and place of birth and a biography of her musical career.

Liverpool refers to Miss Stone, who gave evidence to the court on Tuesday, as “princess”, and other musical stars were also listed, such as British rapper Dizzee Rascal, Eminem, Beyonce, and Girls Aloud.

The court heard that on another page, a note was entitled “Game of life”, and added: “Inj: chop off arm leg crossbow” and “Kills: decapitate them”.

Other entries, the jury was told, referred to “Jocelyn RIP – try to get info. Rob and kill.”

Another said: “Steel a car & out. Jocelyn Stoker RIP.”

Liverpool also wrote: “Jocelyn – devil. She devil in flesh” and “The Queen. She devil/her system take the p***. Destroy The Queen’s system.”

The court heard when Liverpool was arrested a handwritten note was found by police which said: “Find a river to dump her.”

In their Fiat Punto, which was driven by Bradshaw, were route finder directions from Manchester to Miss Stone’s house in Devon, the court heard.

Det Con Joyner confirmed under cross-examination that among documents seized by police she never found a picture of Miss Stone or a ransom note.

The trial continues.
