decision due on 'custody assault'

Prosecutors are to decide next week whether a South Yorkshire Police staff member should face charges for an alleged assault on a man in custody, the Yorkshire Post has learnt.

A custody detention officer was arrested by his own force in June on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

It follows an allegation that a man's groin was burned when liquid

was deliberately poured over him while in custody at Barnsley police station on May 30.
